rocSHMEM is a GPU-centric communication runtime following the OpenSHMEM
partitioned global address space model. Its distinguishing feature is that
device code initiates its own transfers: puts, gets and collectives are
called from inside a kernel rather than being marshalled by the host
between kernel launches, which suits fine-grained communication that would
otherwise force a launch boundary. It can run over an MPI bootstrap for
multi-process work, or within a single node over HIP IPC.
